Miami Breast Augmentation
By Dr. Deirdre Marshall
Large, full breasts have always been a symbol of femininity and appeal. Women’s clothing is made to accentuate the bust line. However, each woman is different and may feel different about the size of their breast. When smaller breasts cause body image issues and lack of self-esteem a breast augmentation surgery is the best solution. Marshall Cosmétique offers breast augmentation in our offices in Miami to help women feel more feminine and comfortable about their bodies.
Augmentation mammoplasty uses surgical implants to enlarge the breasts. During the evaluation process you will be able to evaluate and determine the size and type of implant that best suits your needs.
Who Should Consider Breast Augmentation?
Typically, women who are unhappy with the size of their breasts are the most common candidates to undergo a breast augmentation surgery. However, Dr. Marshall also uses breast augmentation for correcting:
- Asymmetrical breasts
- Prior malposition of breast implants
Although breast augmentation is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States, you must be a good candidate in order to undergo this operation. Generally healthy people with realistic expectations and non-smokers are best suited to receive breast augmentation.
*** Please Note *** A baseline mammogram may be required before and after your surgery to detect changes in breast tissue.
What to Expect?
Prior to breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Marshall will likely have you:
- Adjust or add medication
- Stop smoking
- Avoid taking aspirin as it can increase bleeding
Saline or Silicone?
Saline implants are approved for women 18 years of age and up. They are comprised of sterile salt water. If these implant begins to leak, the implant will collapse. The saline will be absorbed by the body and naturally expelled.
Silicone implants are approved for women 22 years of age and up. The silicone filling resembles that of natural breast. The implant may or may not collapse if it begins leaking. You may need regular visits to your surgeon to ensure the implants continue proper functioning.
On the day of your breast augmentation, your procedure will involve the following steps:
Anesthesia. Dr. Marshall will recommend whether you should undergo intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.
Incision. Dr. Marshall will choose the incision pattern that will best suit your needs and preferences. The three common incision patterns associated with a breast lift procedure:
- Inframammary Incision
- Transaxillary Incision
- Periareolar Incision
Dr. Marshall will then insert your breast implants into a pocket:
- Under your pectoral muscle
- Behind the breast tissue, over your pectoral muscle
The incisions are then closed with sutures, skin adhesives or surgical tape to close the skin.
Recovery. After receiving breast augmentation at Marshall Cosmétique, your breasts will be swollen, fluid retention and even bruising. Bandages are used to reduce swelling and compress the skin. You may also receive a drainage tube to flush out excess blood and/or fluid that may have collected during surgery.
When Can I Return to Work?
It is often possible for most patients to return to work in about two-three weeks. Reserve physical activity for several weeks following surgery. It is normal to experience mild discomfort during this time. Report severe pain to your doctor immediately.
